We offer a variety of extra-curricular options for parents and students.
Playgroup
Parents are invited to bring their infants, toddlers and pre-school aged children along to our weekly playgroup sessions.
Taking place each Thursday morning, from 10am until 11am, our Prep - Year 2 teachers offer children a terrific opportunity to engage in some fun filled and educational activities in the company of many new friends from our Prep - Year 2 class.
As all playgroup participants will be sharing a 'fruit break' with our Prep - Year 2 students, parents are encouraged to bring along a piece of fruit and a drink for their children to enjoy.
Parents are also warmly welcomed to stay for morning tea with staff following the playgroup session if they wish.
Music programme - Eisteddfod choirs
Our specialist music teacher, Miss Jenni Holstrom, offers students the opportunity to participate in the annual Stanthorpe Eisteddfod as part of our Applethorpe State School choir. Students of all year levels are able to take part in this wonderful Stanthorpe community event as we present both a junior and senior choir group to perform alongside our fellow schools from throughout the Granite Belt.
Book club
Throughout the year, our school offers children the opportunity to purchase materials through the Scholastic Book Club. Leaflets detailing available books are distributed approximately 8 times a year.
Arts council
Our students have the opportunity to attend approximately 4 Queensland Arts Council performances per year. These performances range from musical items to puppet plays, with the performers often coming from different countries around the world.
Chaplaincy
A school chaplain is a safe person for young people to connect with at school, providing a listening ear and a caring presence.
Chaplains care for students struggling with a wide range of issues, including: family problems, friendship issues, peer pressure, self-esteem issues, bullying, stress and anxiety.
School chaplains run positive, fun activities for young people in school and foster a supportive, caring school community. This includes support for at-risk students, support for staff and families from the wider school community.
The partnership between the school and the chaplain, supported by businesses, community organisations and local churches, provides a network of local support and assistance. These positive relationships help young people to face issues and provide connection, hope and meaning.
Working alongside other caring professionals and operating in accordance with the Education Queensland Chaplaincy Policy, they care for young people's needs through pastoral care and activity programmes.
