On the 25th of April, 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. These brave soldiers became known as Anzacs and although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the Australian and New Zealand actions during the campaign left us all a powerful legacy.
We gathered together with our local community in the beautiful Applethorpe Memorial Park on Friday 22nd April, in remembrance of the Anzacs and to commemorate the lives of Australians who died in the Second World War and all Australians killed in military operations.
Our students wore handmade poppies and listened respectfully to speeches, laid a wreathe in honour of those lost and enjoyed some delicious ANZAC biscuits, baked for the occasion.
On Monday 25th April, our students represented their school with pride in the annual ANZAC Day March, which travelled through the heart of Stanthorpe.
